Wedding Professionals are Heading to Help Haiti: Donations Needed

Hey Everyone!

My friend, fellow wedding designer, and editor of Eco-Beautiful Weddings Katie Martin has worked hard to arrange a team of wedding pros who are heading to the Dominican Republic next month to aid Haitian Earthquake victims. They are still in need of donations in order to make sure that their trip is as beneficial as possible. The group will be working with Centro Bono, an organization that specifically works with Haitians in in the Dominican Republic and Haiti.

Any amount will help, even if it is $10 or $15. For more information, as well as the PayPal Link, please click here: http://www.eleganceandsimplicity.com/blog/announcements/helping-haitians-you-can-too/

The efforts of this group are fully backed by myself and my company, Little Pink Book Events, Ltd.

Great Article from the Wall Street Journal

I just read this article titled "A Lavish Wedding Costs More Than You Think" in the Wall Street Journal, and wanted to share it with my readers. Again, more support as to why it is important to stick to your budget. Who can help you do that? Well, a wedding planner of course ;)

Check it out. I would love to read your feedback.

Happy Blogiversary To The Little Pink Blog!

Today marks the first blogiversary for my baby the Little Pink Blog. I started the blog in order to report to my readers about weddings, event planning, entertaining, etiquette, places that I go, cool events, fab people, etc, etc, etc. Looking over my prior 74 posts, it is great to see all of my cool adventures. It kind of brings a tear to my eye..Okay, not really, but I am very proud. I have a super fun life, a great job, and have been invited to some super fun events in the past year. Some of them, quite glamorous :)

I do know this; I pride myself on blogging my way about the content that I want to write about. I also feel that blogging with the utmost professionalism is key. You won’t find any jabs at other planners, any exaggerations, or any inappropriate content. Just pure, delicious, realness.

So through posting about “What Not to Say at a Party”, or “RSVPs: Tips and Etiquette”, I hope that my readers have found my content somewhat interesting. If that is not your thing, then perhaps one of my recipe posts (Wedding Cake Martini) will catch your attention. There is plenty of content and love to go around.

So what is to come? I have a lot of things up my sleeves as usual. I am always fortunate enough to meet/work with talented people, or find interesting things that I love to share with my audience.

As always your comments are welcome and encouraged…. as long as they are tasteful. Sure I had a couple of isolated incidents with so-called experts. However, if you are an expert, you should be writing on your own blog, not arguing on mine with your website attached… Sigh. I also welcome any questions that you may have had. In fact, the Little Pink Q&A is an upcoming weekly feature that I have in the works. I often get asked questions that I feel a lot of people have, so why not share?

So with that being said, Thank You for reading. Thank you for your comments. Thank you for all of the love. The Little Pink Blog is moving right along, and I can’t wait to see what year number two will bring!

Muah!

Going to the Courthouse and We’re Gonna Get Married

For the past year, I anxiously awaited the wedding of my good friend who goes by “La Historiadora de Moda” on her fun blog titled Fashionable Academics

I was so excited when I first got wind of her engagement, to her long time love, via facebook. During the months that followed, she found a beautiful gown, and set a date for the spring of this year.

Like most couples, La Historiadora and her fiancé initially dealt with figuring out their wedding budget. Even when you try to keep it to the very basic wedding necessities, those costs can add up. The original plan was to have a simply elegant outdoor ceremony, with a fun reception afterwards. However the reality of current economic conditions came to play a few months later.

“My now husband and I are both finishing our PhDs and looking for jobs in our fields, and in this economy the market is very tight. I also felt overwhelmed with the planning. I’m a busy woman. I teach at two universities, I’m finishing a dissertation, I run a blog, and I’m training for another half-marathon.”

Talk about a full plate! Fast forward to December of ’09…. La Historiadora de Moda sent me an email stating that she and her fiancée had just decided to scratch the wedding plans, and head to the courthouse in a few weeks. I cannot tell you the relief that I could already sense from her. Besides, I was so excited for them! It was so Carrie and Big! Hey, the big elaborate weddings are nice, but let’s get real. If it’s not in the budget, it’s not in the budget. Although I am in the business of weddings, I never advocate for couples to go broke over their special day. It is about the commitment, period.

The wedding date was January 22, 2010. Here is what La Historiadora de Moda thought about her big day.

“I would really recommend this to others. We spent about $5,000 including the booking of the professional photographer, wedding cake, and catered food. It was nice to actually be able to hang out with the 30 people we had at our home reception that night and get to eat plenty of delicious Lebanese food.”

When I really think back, this wedding was more fitting than the other one that La Historiadora had planned. After knowing someone for about 10 years, it is easy for me to tell when a certain situation may not be the right fit.

So..from a Wedding Planner’s standpoint, they did exactly what I always stress to my clients. Make the day about you. I know that there can be many opinions flying around, but at the end of the day, it is about the couple who is making the commitment.

Kudos my friend! For further details about La Historiadora de Moda’s big day, you can check out her blog by clicking here! You can also follow her on Twitter at http://www.twitter.com/fashionableacad More Pics Below!

LPB Takes Manhattan: Gabriella New York Bridal Salon

Before I headed to the Eco-Beautiful Weddings launch party on Tuesday, I made a visit to Gabriella New York Bridal Salon, which is located in the  Meatpacking District (one ofmy favorite neighborhoods) on West 14th Street.

Owner Gabriella Risattiand I have communicated via Twitter for a while, so I had to take her up on her offer to visit her beautiful salon! Gabriella and her team offer a personalized boutique experience for brides who are shopping for their dream gown. They also have a wide array of veils, handbags, and hair accessories so that you can get the complete look.

Let me tell you, I absolutely fell in love with the salon. From the moment you walk in the door, beautiful gowns are lined up for brides to look through, while the windows give you a glimpse of the hip New York City neighborhood that it is nestled in.

Gabriella works closely with the gown designers, so customization and special sizes are available! Oh and individual attention is another added bonus as they operate by appointment only, as well as offering evening hours so that brides can head over after work.

After meeting, I took a few minutes to wander around an look at the gowns. I have posted pics below. For more information, please click here to visit the Gabriella New York website.
